David Brancaccio took the reins as host, senior writer, and correspondent at the PBS weekly news magazine NOW in 2005 after sharing host and reporting duties with veteran journalist Bill Moyers. On NOW, Brancaccio has conducted in-depth interviews with a wide range of guests, from former President Jimmy Carter to author Kurt Vonnegut. His investigative stories have included a rare visit to the U.S. military prison at Guantanamo Bay, an examination of the political strategies of House Majority Leader Tom DeLay, and a report on the politics of toxic mercury in the food chain. Brancaccio's story about a social enterprise solving the challenges of health care in Kenya won a 2007 Emmy. A broadcaster for 32 years, Brancaccio spent 13 years at public radio's Marketplace, which tripled its audience during his tenure. He has contributed to CNN, CNBC, and BBC World Service Television; his print work has appeared in The Wall Street Journal, The Miami Herald, and The Baltimore Sun. He is author of the book Squandering Aimlessly, an account of his pilgrimage to talk with Americans about wealth and values.
