John Stocks is a national leader in the fight to transform America's public schools. Since 2003, he has served as a top-ranking official of the 3.2 million-member National Education Association, the nation's largest union, with a $330 million budget and 555 staff. As NEA's Deputy Executive Director, Stocks spearheaded NEA's top policy, political, and membership priorities. Stocks' commitment to public education spans decades, and he has been recognized by leading national organizations for his contributions to the fight for progressive social change. He served as the Assistant Executive Director for Public Affairs at the Wisconsin Education Association Council and as the Executive Director of Idaho Fair Share. In 1988, Stocks successfully ran for State Senate in Idaho, defeating a four-term incumbent. He has been honored by the Midwest Academy, a national grassroots training institute, and by the Ballot Initiative Strategy Center. He is currently a member of the Democracy Alliance and serves on the Executive Committee of the Committee on the States.
