Commitment to Intergenerational Leadership, Exchange & Dialogue

Momentum strives to create a space that supports and respects participants' generational perspectives and diverse backgrounds and experiences. In planning and implementing this conference, we seek to reflect our commitments to progressive movement building and diversity.

The Momentum partners recognize that every individual has a unique and valuable perspective that must be included in discussing community problems and creating innovative approaches and solutions. Celebrating diversity is a core principle in the democracy we seek to build and the Momentum community that we seek to create.

This conference is also an opportunity for us to build relationships and friendships, to get to know one another, and to share our thoughts and stories. We hope that each participant will join us in working together across generations to explore progressive funding strategies and opportunities for action to support movements for social justice. The Movement Strategy Center reminds us that in order to fully support the development of progressive movements, we must extend this intergenerational commitment to "all aspects of collaboration, including communication, purpose, and
action."

Our goals for this conference include:

  • Fostering a diverse and welcoming space for all participants;
  • Supporting emerging donors involved in strategic philanthropy across all kinds of difference;
  • Engaging in thoughtful and strategic planning to ensure that speakers, workshops, and programmatic activities
    reflect our commitment to intergenerational leadership;
  • Building a greater understanding of and respect for generational difference as well as difference of race, ethnicity,
    gender, sexual orientation, ability, class and age;
  • Ensuring age diversity in the Momentum conference planning team; and
  • Conducting outreach activities to ensure diverse participation, particularly by young people, at this conference.
